27: Consequences of Ignoring Scoliosis

Ignoring your scoliosis diagnosis? Most of the time people don’t think they are. But here’s what ignoring it looks like: A medical doctor looks at your x-rays and determines that it’s not bad enough for surgery, therefore they determine that nothing else needs to be done. Most medical providers are unaware of the proactive tools available. In this episode, Dr. Mandy shares insight on the long-term consequences of ignoring a mild diagnosis, as well as some options for proactive care.

Options for proactive care include:

  • A Traction device – this device is similar to a foam yoga block. Patients are usually prescribed this to use at home for a specific amount of time each day. It helps reduce the pressure on the nerves of your spine. When done correctly as prescribed, it can improve correction to the spine.
  • Bracing – there are many forms of bracing are available. We recommend a 3-D corrective brace. It is different than the ones the medical community is familiar with and provides more accurate correction.
