25: Why Can’t I Poop?

Have you ever wondered to yourself, “Why can’t I poop?” While this might seem like a silly, gross topic to talk about on a podcast, it’s definitely an important one to address! Dr. Mandy gets this question a lot as she works with her scoliosis patients. In this episode, she shares some insight on how scoliosis and spinal issues might be contributing to digestive issues.

Things to know on the topic of “why can’t I poop?”:

  • If you have a curve in your low back – and your spine is not in the position it should be in – that will affect your ability to poop. Structurally it changes where your organs are positioned and the messages from your nervous system to your brain won’t function optionally.
  • Chiropractic adjustments always have a huge impact on your ability to poop. If the nervous system is calm, and the nerves are firing well, your body will work better.
  • Food allergies and other digestive diseases will add to the issues. Always check with your provider before making changes to their recommendations.
  • Being in a high stress state will affect your body’s ability to function correctly.
  • Babies that haven’t pooped for a day or more might need a chiropractic adjustment to help release the stress on the nervous system.

What to do if you can’t poop:

If you notice digestive issues, get your nervous system and spine checked as soon as possible. Call your chiropractor today for an adjustment and be sure to monitor your care frequently to resolve the issue!
