Tips for adulting with scoliosis during the college years:

  • The recommendations for adults with a brace change from full time wear in your high school years to 6-8 hours of wear in the college years. If your brace still fits, talk to your care provider about continuing to wear it part-time.
  • You will need to find new care providers in your new community for college. Talk to your care provider to find out who they can refer you to for chiropractic care, massage therapy, and any other care providers you need to connect with.
  • Communicate your expectations clearly to your new care providers and be sure to include past care routines.
  • Choosing a pro-active care plan of regular chiropractic care helps keep your bio-mechanics as normal as possible. This means it can help your spine have better movement, help your discs stay healthy, and have a better overall quality of life.

Questions to ask a new chiropractor:

Dr. Mandy recommends asking the following questions when interviewing a new chiropractor to find out if they are a good fit for your care needs. These questions are great to ask massage therapists and physical therapists, too.

  • What is your policy for new patients?
  • What is your philosophy on care for your patients?
  • Would you be willing to connect with my current provider for a general patient overview phone call?

13: Scoliosis Tips for Massage Therapists

This week on the podcast, we are talking to fellow providers. Specifically, the massage therapists. Tune in as Dr. Mandy shares some quick scoliosis tips for massage therapists.

Tips for Massage Therapists:

  • Notice how your patients bend over to pick up their clothes, or how they sit in your waiting area.
  • Where your patients carry their handbag can also be an indicator of scoliosis – does the strap slip off the shoulder or does it stay in place?

These seemingly unimportant details can make a huge difference in whether or not scoliosis is discovered and managed well.

It really does take a team of providers to help our scoliosis patients effectively! We would love to network with you to provide specialized care for your patients, as well. Connect with us to learn how we can partner together to offer solutions to your patients.
